ilOUG Oracle Technologies Meetup Group

I have a confession: I love Oracle User Groups. Here. I said it.
I think that the idea of a community gathered around common professional interests and expertise are great. It’s an opportunity to meet you colleague and learn a thing or two you don’t get to work with on a daily basis from your peers. For junior DBAs it’s even more important. They have the opportunity to look into their future and see where they want to be when they get more experienced. In my opinion, networking is SUPER important!

tl;dr: ilOUG is reinstating the quarterly SIG meetings, I’m one of the organizers, join us if you’re in Israel!

Presentations-Presentations-Presentations

For the last few months I’ve been presenting a lot in various venues. I presented in Oracle Open World, HROUG conference in Croatia, DOAG in Germany, Oracle Week in Israel (3 day long presentations!), MySQL User Group in Israel and in some more private conferences and private events. I was also accepted to IOUG collaborate in Las Vegas in April and I’m planning to give some Webinars soon.

I believe that educating and sharing is pretty important, and since most of my presentations are in English (the slides, but sometimes also the session itself) – I usually keep the habit of uploading it to my SlideShare for people to enjoy it.

I was talking to a customer-friend yesterday, and he told me that he’s been reading my blog for a very long time, but he’s kind of sad he can’t see all my decks there. So, I’m taking his advise and for the next few days, I’ll post all of my presentations here – a post for each of the presentations and will add the demo scripts, wherever applicable.

Feel free to ask questions and make requests – I’d love to hear you opinion and suggestions!

All of the presentation are available for download from Slideshare.

My OOW Experience, the Prequel

On the first or second year after I became a DBA (somewhere in the year 2000, give or take), I heard about this magical event that is taking place in the Oracle realm. All the top Oracle DBAs and professionals in the world (and maybe a couple of unicorns, I’m not sure) are gathering in a small but beautiful village by the name of San Francisco – and talk about databases. I found this story unbelievable – but I knew I must go there.

I was about 20 at the time, so going around the world for a conference was out of the question – but the idea of a big convention sounded awesome to me. When I went to my first local Oracle event, I was so amazed and knew that no matter what – I will someday go to the Oracle Open World (OOW).

Years gone by and I evolved – from a programmer and DBA to a senior DBA, team leader, senior consultant, service director, and even CTO for a consultancy company – but I never had the chance to go to that Open World event.

How Did I Become a Public Speaker: My First Time

Last week, my dear friend Roni Vered Adar told me about a pod cast by Kendra Little entitled “How to Level Up Your DBA Career (Dear SQL DBA)“. Roni told me that Kendra talked about the importance of public speaking and wanted to know what I think.

I said it’s a great idea, so Roni asked if I could tell her a little about how I started speaking in public, and about my first time to do it. I told her that’s a long story but I’ll blog on it if she wants. She did, so here we go…

My Upcoming Speaker Events

This is a heads up for some upcoming events I will be appearing on in the next few weeks. I was also accepted (as a standby session) to UKOUG Scotland (which I was at, last year) but unfortunately I will not be able to attend as it collides with some of my other speaking events.

My New Year Resolutions for 2016

As 2015 is coming to its end and a new year is beginning, I find myself looking back, counting my successes and failures. I was very optimistic for this year, and indeed, it did not disappoint.

The year started just after I was awarded my Oracle ACE Associate in November 2014, so obviously I felt this year is going to be awesome in that field but I think I’ll need some goal setting if I want to get where I want to be next year. So here are some of my (professional) year summary and my New Year resolutions.

My main goal for next year is upgrading my Oracle ACE title and I hope these will help me achieve it.

I’m publicly posting them so I can check if I followed through, on January 1, 2017… 🙂
